We're All For Forgetting:
Tim Ridlen

A solo show by photographer, video, and installation artist TIM RIDLEN, We’re All For Forgetting includes the results of two large-scale projects. Ridlen’s work focuses on three key concepts: failure, manipulation, and futility. One of the installations in the exhibit, “Reconstructing the Father” ponders the historical and contemporary desire for true meaning from an object and the subsequent failure of the delivery. The installation, conceived on the notion and desire to replicate his father’s makeshift bookshelf, combines numerous books arranged in stacks. The cinderblocks as seen from the photograph of the original, function in a new way, providing the screen that receives a video documentation of the artist building this structure. There is a significant anxiety and immediacy to the actions displayed; an inquisitive and voyeuristic environment is created for the viewer. Tim Ridlen says of his work “By predicating an intensely subjective and individual interpretation of objects, the challenge is to make work that means something in the larger context of time and place.” The installation is accompanied by black and white and color photographs.
